Airnode is a Web 3.0 oracle solution that serves as a middleware to let blockchain-based smart contracts link to web APIs. API providers can use the oracle node and API blockchain gateway for supplying off-chain data feeds to blockchain-based decentralized applications (dApps).
Airnode's open-source Web3 API middleware makes it possible for any Web API to connect to a dApp. The service acts as a bridge for on-chain applications on the blockchain to access and interact with off-chain, real-world data provided by Web APIs.
Unlike third-party oracle services that perform similar functions, Airnodes are free and open-source. They charge no exorbitant fees like oracle services to allow Web APIs to connect to blockchain apps.
