Arweave is a company that offers decentralized web storage technology and supports permanent storage for data online. Community-owned, the company calls its solution a “collectively owned hard drive that never forgets.”
Arweave network offers a permaweb - a global, community-owned, and decentralized network where users can sign up to provide storage and receive incentives for their contributions. AR is the native cryptocurrency used within the Arweave network to pay as incentives for miners who offer their services for decentralized data storage.
Arweave was initially launched as Archain in August 2017 and then underwent a rebranding in February 2018. It was officially launched in June 2018.
In January 2020, the project launched its decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) to become completely decentralized and community-owned. The core community members who make up the DAO are responsible for deciding on the Arweave network’s development and future evolution.
