Pi Network is a cryptocurrency project founded by Stanford graduates Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis and Dr. Chengdiao Fan. They launched the Pi Network mobile app on March 14, 2019, allowing users to mine Pi coins using their smartphones. 

Pi Network's development follows a three-phase roadmap:

1. Beta Phase (Phase I): Began in December 2018 with the release of the mobile app as an alpha prototype, onboarding initial users.

2. Testnet Phase (Phase II): Started on March 14, 2020, introducing a live Testnet with distributed nodes worldwide to prepare for a decentralized blockchain.

3. Mainnet Phase (Phase III): Initiated in December 2021, this phase is divided into two parts:

> Enclosed Network: The Mainnet is live but operates within a firewall to prevent unwanted external connections. This period allows users to complete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification and migrate their Pi to the live Mainnet blockchain.

> Open Network: Scheduled to begin based on the ecosystem's maturity and progress in KYC verification. This phase will remove the firewall, enabling external connectivity to other networks and wallets.

As of November 2024, Pi Network is in the Enclosed Network phase, focusing on KYC verification and building applications within its ecosystem. The Open Network launch is anticipated by the end of 2024, depending on the achievement of specific milestones.

Pi Network's Pi coin is designed for various uses within its ecosystem:

1. Digital Payments: You can use Pi coins to buy goods and services online or in physical stores that accept Pi.

2. Peer-to-Peer Transactions: Transfer Pi coins directly to others without intermediaries, facilitating quick and low-cost exchanges.

1. Download the App: Get the Pi Network app for iOS or Android.

2. Sign Up: Register with your phone number or Facebook, and enter an invitation code.

3. Start Mining: Tap the lightning bolt icon daily to mine. It uses minimal battery and data.

4. Boost Mining Rate: Invite friends and add trusted members to your Security Circle.

5. Complete KYC: Verify your identity to prepare for future Pi uses.

Pi Network's tokenomics are designed to promote inclusivity and broad participation. Here's an overview:

Total Supply: The total supply of Pi coins is capped at 100 billion.

Distribution

> Community Allocation: 80% (80 billion Pi) is allocated to the community.

> Core Team Allocation: 20% (20 billion Pi) is reserved for the Pi Core Team.

To control volatility and promote long-term value, Pi Network implements a lock-up mechanism where a portion of mined Pi is locked for a specified period.

Pi Network allows you to mine Pi cryptocurrency directly from your smartphone. To start, download the Pi Network app and create an account. Once registered, open the app daily and tap the lightning button to mine Pi coins. 

This process doesn't drain your battery or consume significant data. Pi Network uses the Stellar Consensus Protocol, enabling efficient mining without heavy computational resources. 

You can increase your mining rate by inviting others to join the network using your referral code. Currently, Pi coins cannot be traded or withdrawn; they are stored within the app until the network's mainnet launches.
