KuCoin AMA With Cere Network — The Decentralized Data Cloud for Enterprises

2021/12/01 11:49:56

Dear KuCoin Users,

Time: November 30, 2021, 10:00-11:14 (UTC)

KuCoin hosted an AMA (Ask-Me-Anything) session with Fred Jin, CEO of Cere Network, in the KuCoin Exchange Group.

Project Introduction

Cere Network is the first Decentralized Data Cloud (DDC) platform in alignment with Polkadot and Polygon, optimized for trustless cloud data integration and data collaboration across blockchain networks. The Cere DDC platform is built from the ground up to power the new generation of first-party customer data ecosystems as well as empowering the next generation of NFTs that will power the future of digital content and e-commerce.

Guest:

Fred Jin — CEO of Cere Network

Fred has been involved in Silicon Valley startups since 1997. He co-founded 50cubes, a Tencent-backed gaming company, and was one of the early employees at social media platform Bebo, which was acquired by AOL for $850M. At Cere, he is responsible for all day-to-day operations and now leads a company of over 50 employees, which is growing hard.

Q&A from KuCoin

Q: Can you tell us more about Cere Network?

Fred: Cere Network is leading the innovation and the movement behind true data ownership, aiming to do with data much like what Bitcoin did to money. We are also part of a consortium of projects such as Polkadot and Cosmos, united by the vision of cross-chain data interoperability between all blockchain networks.

Cere’s layer-1 blockchain network is designed to provide utility and security to the Cere Decentralized Data Cloud. It's designed to work directly with any EVM-compatible blockchain network.

Q: What are the core products of Cere?

Fred: 1) The most important part is the Cere DDC, decentralized data cloud. It is like decentralized big data that serves as the foundation for the future of true data ownership.

E.g., take control of your user data back from Google and Facebook. Such user data should be associated with the user's own wallet and keys and NFTs, and the individual chooses how and when to use it with which application.

2) Cere Freeport -> ()

Secure digital vault for all NFT backed assets for games and NFT platforms. To bring true secure data ownership to all NFTs, Cere Freeport is the first solution to solve this problem. Have a look at the case study below to see how Freeport offers a great alternative for in-game objects.

3) We are also launching a premium NFT Experience Platform, to be announced near the end of this year as part of a joint venture with a major L1 blockchain ecosystem. It will completely change the way in which creators and brands can tap into NFTs to usher in a new era of digital content and e-commerce.

BTW, if you're a developer and want to have early access to Cere DDC and Freeport, you can sign up for our Extended Developer Program. We have been onboarding many developers.

Q: Who do you consider as Cere’s competitors?

Fred: We see Snowflake as the main competitor of Cere Network on the enterprise data cloud side. There's a huge amount of competitiveness we can bring to that space with solutions that unlock data ownership from the current vendor-locked ecosystems.

On the blockchain side, we see a project like Filecoin, which is a good protocol with a good community but lacks real-world developer and user adoption, as a comp.

Q: What are the goals for Cere this year?

Fred: We recently published our new roadmap article, packed with new projects and deliverables for the upcoming 3 quarters. If you haven’t read it yet, please do so! https://bit.ly/cere-roadmap

Also, here is a visual overview of what you can expect for Cere in the upcoming months:

Q: Can you tell us more about the Cere Team?

Fred: We have a very strong leadership team. Most of us have all worked closely together in previous ventures. Together we’ve assembled a very strong distributed team across US and Europe, with a strong innovation and collaborative culture stemming from our deep Silicon Valley experiences.

We have grown tremendously in the past 12 months. We have a strong team of over 50 innovators (mostly dev/engineering) who have been working hard on the key innovations behind Cere. Together the team has a wealth of experience in the areas across cryptography, blockchain, gaming, media, large-scale distributed enterprise systems, AI/ML, etc.

We have 3 leaders, such as myself (Been doing only SV startups since 1997), who have built SV venture-backed businesses previously. Building such an amazing team is something that I'm most proud of.

Q: Cere has a big list of investors. On the site, we see names like Binance Labs, NGC, Republic, and many others. Can you tell us more about the role they play and how they will help the project grow going forward?

Fred: We have selected great investors, which we want to also call partners who share our long-term innovation vision. They are strategic investors who can add real value: e.g., Binance Labs is where Cere was incubated, while other institutional investors such as Arrington Capital, Fenbushi, Republic Labs, Monday Capital, QCP, NGC have been very helpful in guiding us as well.

We also see top exchanges such as KuCoin as important partners going forward as well!

Q: Why did you choose to develop on Substrate (Polkadot)?

Fred: Well, we do have a strong presence in Berlin, so we have known the W3F team for a while. In fact, I was on their enterprise adoption panel as early as 2019.

We have built our own Layer-1 blockchain network, which extends the Substrate components, leveraging both the Polkadot ecosystem innovations (that’s ongoing), as well as aligning on a future of interoperable blockchain networks. This effectively allows us to move faster and reduce risks while extending Cere DDC as an easy integration for all of the W3F projects natively, as well as being compatible with all EVM blockchains (Ethereum, Polygon, Cosmos, BSC, etc.) to bring about a truly decentralized future for data.

Free-Ask from KuCoin Community

Thijs — Community Manager of Cere Network also joined the AMA session.

Q: Does your project have any strategic partnerships in the crypto world that you can list of?

Fred: We have some very strong strategic partnerships that are already well-publicized. We are also in the process of onboarding a strong ecosystem team that will take our core innovation to a number of top gaming and NFT projects as we speak (look for some news and PR coming out about this in the next few days).

Q: Can you tell us about your plans for the long term? What are you currently working on and what strategy will be used to expand globally?

Thijs: Hi guys, just jumping in to help Fred as he is running towards his next meeting: https://cere-network.medium.com/cere-networks-road-ahead-ecosystem-expansion-f7e9f6ba4ee have a look at our recently published roadmap article!

Q: What major partnerships does your project intend to use or how does your project bring its products to the average consumer - especially non-crypto users?

Fred: This is a great question. We are combining the years of experience of building BaaS (blockchain as a service) that simplifies identity, payment, user wallet custody, SDKs, etc., combined with smart contract native integrations to all developers directly power individual data hosting (like streaming subscription) for the average consumer. E.g., it's like, think of a decentralized Netflix which allows the user to truly own the data behind the NFT and to take that data into any future applications, etc.

It's just one of the many really world changing innovations that will be felt by many consumers and businesses.

Q: Staking is one of the strategies to attract users and hold them long-term. Does your great project have a plan about staking?

Thijs: We currently offer staking options on one of our partner exchanges. More exchanges will follow and we also will provide more ERC-20 staking opportunities to our community!

Q: Are there any promotions for developers to attract them to join Cere?

Thijs: If you want to experience our technology first-hand, make sure to have a look at our Extended Developer Program. We are currently setting up all validators and will provide grants in the near future to developers who want to build on top of our Decentralized Data Cloud (DDC): https://cere-network.medium.com/external-developer-program-update-ee26edef96e5

Q: Ambassadors play a very important role in every project. Do you have an ambassador program? If yes, how can I be one?

Thijs: We are building our ambassador program as we speak, make sure to follow our announcement channel: https://t.me/cerenetwork to stay up-to-date.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to share or you want us to know?

Thijs: Yes! Make sure to follow our Twitter: https://twitter.com/cerenetwork

Part of the team (including Fred, who woke up at 5 AM to take time for this AMA, thanks Fred!) is in Miami to visit Art Basel, a big art event. What is more, the team is in talks with a lot of big artists and companies for our upcoming NFT Experience Platform (built together with Polygon)!
