According to CryptoDnes, the release of Squid Game's second season on December 26th, 2024 has led to a surge of crypto tokens inspired by the series. Many of these tokens are suspected scams or 'rug pulls.' Blockchain security firm PeckShield issued a warning on December 27, identifying several fraudulent Squid Game tokens. A specific token on the Base network saw its value plummet by 99% shortly after launch. Similar tokens have appeared on the Solana network. A Twitter account promoting a Squid Game-themed token raised concerns, as top token holders shared identical addresses, suggesting a potential coordinated 'dump.' This follows a 2021 incident where a Squid Game token spiked over 45,000% before users were unable to sell, leading to 'rug pull' accusations.
