HERNDON, Va., October 23 /PRNewswire/ -- HawkEye 360, Inc. (NYSE: HAWK) today announced that Cluster 16 has been successfully launched. The cluster consists of three satellites equipped with advanced antenna technology designed to enhance the flexibility and capacity of the company’s space-based radio frequency (RF) collection architecture.
Cluster 16 was launched aboard Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket on a dedicated mission titled “We're Not Hawking Around” from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand. After entering its inclined orbit, HawkEye 360’s space operations team successfully established communication with all three satellites and has begun the in-orbit testing and commissioning process.
The company stated that the launches of Cluster 15 and Cluster 16 occurred just three days apart, departing from launch sites on opposite sides of the Earth, demonstrating HawkEye 360’s ability to manage a complex global launch cadence. As ride-share launch capacity becomes increasingly constrained, the company has secured launch opportunities through 2028 to maintain constellation continuity, preserve flexibility, and support evolving customer mission requirements.
Cluster 16 also features advanced antenna capabilities that enable the simultaneous collection of multiple RF signal types and downlink of mission data. HawkEye 360 states that Cluster 15 and Cluster 16 together are the company’s first satellites with this capability, which will increase collection opportunities and deliver mission data to customers more quickly.
Cluster 16 will provide dedicated capacity to support one of HawkEye 360’s customers, demonstrating the company’s ability to configure and operate its space-based collection architecture around specific customer needs and operational priorities.
John Serafini, CEO of HawkEye 360, said: “Cluster 16 enhances the capabilities and flexibility of our constellation. Synchronized collection and downlink allow us to make more efficient use of our time in orbit, strengthen our signal collection capabilities, and transmit mission data back to Earth more efficiently. Combined with dedicated capacity, this also provides us with another way to tailor our architecture to our customers’ operational needs.”
These three satellites will operate in formation to detect, identify, and locate RF signals from space. After commissioning, Cluster 16 will enhance HawkEye 360’s ability to support defense, intelligence, and security missions by providing timely, shareable signals intelligence.
